Nitrogen bottle 10 liter
In air conditioning, HVAC technicians use pressurized nitrogen—specifically Oxygen-Free Nitrogen (OFN)—primarily for leak testing, purging/ brazing and flushing lines. Because nitrogen is an inert, dry gas, it does not introduce moisture or react with system components
The primary ways nitrogen is used in AC maintenance and installation include:Â
- Leak Testing: Technicians pressurize the empty system with nitrogen to detect leaks. If the system pressure drops, there is a leak.
- Purging and Brazing: During the welding (brazing) of copper pipes, nitrogen is flowed through the tubes to displace oxygen. This prevents the intense heat from causing oxidation and creating harmful scale inside the tubing.
- Flushing: Nitrogen is used to blow debris, contaminants, and moisture out of the refrigerant lines before recharging the system
