A high-pressure switch is connected to the discharge, or “high” side of the system to sense discharge pressure. A pressure switch has two main functions: protection and control.Basic pressure switches can either be for high or low pressure. If the refrigerant discharge pressure builds too high, the switch flips from closed to open, lowering the pressure.
Compressor Protection: Prevents compressors in AC/refrigeration units from being damaged by excessively high discharge pressure.
System Safety: Stops the entire system (chillers, boilers) from releasing fluids or failing under extreme pressure.
Condenser Fan Cycling: Used in commercial refrigeration to manage head pressure by cycling the condenser fan.
