LG Washing Machine Drain Motor
The LG washing machine drain motor (or actuator). Is used to open the drain valve to expel wastewater from the drum and release the brake mechanism during spin cycles. It works alongside the drain pump to ensure reliable water removal and prevent standing water in the machine.
Key Functions
- Opening the Drain Valve. The motor pulls a lever or wire that opens the valve, allowing gravity or the pump to remove dirty water.
- Releasing the Brake. It disengages the drum brake in top-loader washers so the tub can spin freely during the spin cycle.
Common Symptoms of a Failing Drain Motor
- Standing Water. The washer fails to drain or drain completely, leaving a pool of water at the end of the cycle.
- Slow or No Spinning. Because it releases the brake, a faulty motor can result in the drum failing to rotate or spinning very slowly.
- Unusual Noises. A grinding or humming noise from the motor area often indicates a stripped internal gear or blockage
